SQL Server 2014 CTP1 Installation on Windows Server 2012 Standard Edition in Virtualized Environment
Please refer to below video for a step by step guide on how to install SQL 2014 CTP1 on a Windows 2012 Stand-alone Server. Here I am using a Windows 2012 Standard Edition virtual machine (using Hyper-V) which is a stand-alone member server under a domain. SQL 2014 is completely compatible with virtualization and did not need any special setting to be installed in a virtualized server. So this steps and demonstration can be used to install SQL 2014 CTP1 on a physical Windows 2012 server too.
Actual installation process is pretty straight forward as long as we have .NET Framework 3.5 installed on the operating system.
For this particular instance, as I am using Windows 2012 Server, I had to preinstall .NET Framework 3.5 as per http://blog.consultdba.com/2013/02/installing-net-framework-35-on-windows.html
Notes about video:
Please note that this video does not have voice as all the steps are clearly captured to demonstrate installing SQL 2014 CTP1 on Windows Server 2012. Also this video is edited to reduce run time (ie. some waiting period where setup was doing it’s work but needed no human interaction is remove.) However this shows all steps we need to do during setup process.
